Hi I’m James Flister! Jimmy Vintage for short! Here I am a Gen Xer, Empty Nester; nice to meet you! I’m a Janesville guy; Parker ‘95 to be exact. I love my wife Patti and our four kids! They grew up fast and are out there doing their thing! I love God, Community, and helping people along the way. Oh and Bowhunting! Lots of Bowhunting!

I’ve had many jobs in the past—that in the season seemed like I was not utilizing my full potential. I trusted the process and learned what I could at each stop along the way. Looking back; I did learn valuable lessons, developed unique skills, and met amazing people along the way! I always had a strong draw to align my passions and strengths to my livelihood. I kept striving to do so and would see the world through that lens. I knew I loved Art, Composition, Creative Writing, Marketing, Social Media, Branding, and all the things! Oh and collecting unique old stuff!

In 2012 I launched my own business—it was an Antique Mall with a twist. The twist was putting the emphasis on the creative person behind the booth vs the items… It worked. I grinded. I loved it. It was a slow but steady climb. I gave all I had to the vendors: creating business cards for them, designing websites for them; I taught monthly classes on combining personal brand with business brand. We grew more and expanded. We added more locations and services. I didn’t deserve the growth, I truly give all the glory to God! All the while I kept picking, collecting, buying and selling— even today because I still love it!

I’m an artist at heart. My passion for art has morphed from painting and drawing to curating spaces. Whether it’s a Vintage Mall Booth, Outside Perennial Garden around a Rusty Truck, or a Promotional Piece for Social Media, I’m in! My passion to help people build their brand was strong. I bet on my own instincts. My strategy was that if I could help our vendors stand out, they help their peers do the same, the greater reach becomes potent and powerful. So that’s me!

We have three stores, 20 Employees, Two U-Haul Dealerships, an Estate Clean-Out Service, and we feel like we aren’t done growing and serving! Our mantra all along has been people > stuff. It was born out of the empathy I saw my teammates show to clean-out clients. It stuck. And it’s our thing.

One time I was prepping the trailer to leave after an estate clean-out and was looking for my two helpers. I found them in the living room of the clients house. They sat with the sweet older woman in the dark empty living room, as the electricity was already turned off. Her family had been on that homestead for 150 years. She was struggling with leaving. I watched as they laughed and cried with her. She just needed someone to grieve with for a moment. That’s people > stuff. And we don’t want it to end, so we keep going as hard as we can.
